Spoiled Children of Divorce

Violence in the Home of Step-Families During Coronavirus…

Since the Pandemic I’ve read many articles about rise of domestic violence in homes. I wonder if violence in Step-Family homes would have higher domestic violence rates than Intact Family homes and doubt that these differences would ever be recorded. Did notice that in the reporting of a recent murder in a North San Diego County home, almost no information about relationships and motives was reported. It seemed as if the reporting was intentionally avoided. The suspect’s name was reported and the victim’s name was reported. The reporter from the San Diego Union, in a video, could not even say who owned the house where the suspected homicide occurred yet the reporting went on for twenty minutes as a sort of memorial for the victim who was a Butterfly Farmer.

Then there is this article in which a reporter decided to discuss the messed up family situation and the situation makes sense even without providing a motive. According to The San Diego Reader article (free weekly from the area) drug/alcohol use, mental illness, and divorce and step-family problem could have led to the December 31, 2020 murder which occurred in the home of Jade Jenks. The victim of the murder was Jade’s ex-Step-Father, Tom Merriman.

Jenks was born from a previous relationship that Jenks’ Mother had. It’s not mentioned whether her Mother had married her Father and if they had divorced. Jade would have been 11 when her Mother married Thomas Merriman in 1995. The previous year, in 1994, Merriman had been accused of raping a woman and the woman, Jaclyn, had won a $50,000 civil suit against him for assault. Don’t you just love the courts where a victim can only receive Justice in a civil court?

So, in walks Jade’s Mommy the next year. She probably felt sorry for Merriman. She thought he was a sweet guy who was fascinated by Butterflies. Either way, it looks like drugs and alcohol took over the family scenario pretty fast. Maybe a little Mental Illness as well, but, hey, once Mommy finds out that her Husband is a rapist she is trapped in a marriage which she figures still might work.

The Divorce was nasty and occurred in 2002 when Jade was 19. Jade’s Mother threw all of Jade’s personal effects over a balcony. So, I guess the child gets to be part of the Divorce ceremonies. Merriman reported that Mom had a drinking and meth problem and was violent and verbally abusive. Victim’s of rape and Co-Dependents can get a little grumpy if that’s what secretly happened there. The article says that Jade had an addiction to heroin and Tom Merriman had an addiction to Meth. A little post-rape self-medication. Hope Jade hadn’t been molested and her Mother as well. People are a little more aware of marital rape now than they were back in the 90’s.

In a video (no link) I saw that Merriman’s business partner said that Jade had called Merriman a month before the murder. The murder occurred at her house. The police visited on a welfare check for Merriman and Jade was home at the time. No mention of who called in the welfare check. Jade Jenks is an interior designer who works out of her home. The story beyond this is probably way too personal to talk about. Being a Child of Divorce and a Child of Addicts/Alcoholics is probably enough for Jade to be subjected to psychiatric care for the rest of her life. She will receive a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis, though, instead of the “Child of Divorce” diagnosis.

Jade is 37 now and was 19 when her Mother and Step-Father divorced so it seems that she is hooked into her Nodal Returns pretty tightly as a stressor. It sounds like the stress from the divorce came right back to bite her as soon as the second cycle of the Lunar Nodes returns to her natal position. I think I read that Jade’s Mother and Merriman never actually finalized their divorce which is odd considering what they said was going on. Maybe Divorce courts should just cut the cord if they start reading about violence, etc. and order treatment for both parties. Maybe this could just be attributed to extra stress contributed to the pandemic and the holidays.
