U.S. Census Lesson on Learning About Changes in Family Structure

The U.S. Census is a great resource for finding out information about changes in family structure in the United States. A couple of weeks ago I read an article on this topic which was just published. It contained really interesting information about single parent households. Most single parents are still Mothers but there has been a rise in Fathers as single parents. What was most interesting to me is the rise of children born to unmarried parents and recognition that children living in such households are likely to go through multiple major changes in household structure by the time they are adults.

This gives both teachers and children a chance to discuss a wide variety of topics related to their families and other peoples’ families.
